Bettair® Optimizes NYC DEP Environmental Operations with IoT Sensors for Air Quality Monitoring

dnota AirQuality Corp deploys smart environmental technology in New York as part of the Environmental Tech Lab 2024 program

Bettair®, the advanced air quality monitoring platform, developed by dnota AirQuality Corp, has demonstrated its operational value in one of the most demanding urban environments in the world: New York City.

In collaboration with the NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), the company took part in the Environmental Tech Lab 2024, an initiative led by the Partnership Fund for New York City to integrate innovative technologies into real public infrastructure.

During the pilot, eight solar-powered IoT sensors for air quality monitoring were installed at key locations in Queens and the Bronx. These devices collected accurate, real-time, geo-referenced data on:

  • Gaseous pollutants: NO₂, NO, CO, O₃
  • Particulate matter: PM₁, PM₂.₅, PM₁₀
  • Meteorological conditions: temperature, humidity, pressure
  • Ambient noise levels

All data was managed through a cloud-based air quality monitoring platform, allowing DEP teams to visualize, analyze, and act on environmental data through automated alerts and reports.

Measurable Impact on Environmental Management

The Bettair® solution allowed NYC DEP to:

✅ Automate the collection and validation of air quality data
✅ Reduce routine field inspections
✅ Lower emissions from operational vehicle use
✅ Improve response time through real-time environmental alerts

Clean Technology for Smarter Urban Management

This pilot was part of the city’s Environmental Resilience Challenge, a component of the Tech Lab focused on strengthening infrastructure through clean and efficient technology. The sensors were installed by NYC DEP personnel, including Manoj Oza, and proved how solar-powered civic tech can contribute directly to more efficient, sustainable public operations.
